'jueves de Espetos' at Molino de Pez

If you enjoy discovering restaurants with character and savoring a good meal at a leisurely pace, there is a culinary offering in Barcelona well worth checking out. Molino de Pez presents "Jueves de Espetos" (Espeto Thursdays)—a special menu centered on the art of open-fire cooking, blending tradition, high-quality ingredients, and rich flavor.

Part of the Familia La Ancha group, this restaurant bridges Andalusian culinary culture with Catalan maritime tradition through a technique that is as simple as it is special: the *espeto* (skewered, fire-roasted fish). It is an invitation to explore new flavors and enjoy a complete dining experience in a welcoming atmosphere.

  • A culinary experience centered on the open flame

Originating from the coast of Málaga, the *espeto* is a traditional technique that involves skewering fish onto reeds and roasting them over a wood fire. At Molino de Pez, this tradition is reinterpreted through a selection of dishes featuring fish, meat, and seasonal produce.

The menu begins with an appetizer of olives, bread, and smoked butter, followed by two cold starters: *zamburiñas* (variegated scallops) with a *piparra* (mild chili pepper) emulsion, and a salad of sweet garden-grown tomatoes. Next comes an Andalusian-style fried dish—marinated dogfish—before moving on to the star of the show: two *espetos*, with a choice of six different varieties.

Fish options include tuna collar (*parpatana*), *pargo* (red porgy) prepared in the style of Rota with roasted peppers, and *chipirones* (small squid). For those who prefer meat, the menu offers veal sweetbreads, wood-grilled spring chicken served with *pisto manchego* (a traditional vegetable stew), and artichokes paired with thinly sliced veal.

The meal concludes with a choice of three desserts: wood-grilled peach with frozen yogurt and maple syrup, the famous Fismuler-style cheesecake, or a creamy white chocolate and citrus dessert.

This six-course menu—plus dessert—is designed for guests to enjoy a variety of preparations and discover the full potential of open-fire cooking.

  • Molino de Pez: Tradition with a Modern Perspective

The "Jueves de Espetos" (Espetos Thursdays) offering reflects the philosophy of Molino de Pez: reviving the spirit of classic, traditional eateries while infusing it with a contemporary touch. The kitchen focuses on familiar recipes, generous portions, and a deep respect for the ingredients; the menu also features stews, hearty spoon-served dishes, and grilled meats and fish.

Opened in Barcelona in 2022, the restaurant is part of Familia La Ancha—a hospitality group with over a century of history. Their approach blends the Madrid-style traditions of their origins with the essence of Barcelona’s classic eateries, resulting in flavorful, unpretentious cuisine, complemented by a carefully curated wine list and classic cocktails.

  • An Event to Enjoy on Thursdays

"Jueves de Espetos" is the perfect excuse to discover Molino de Pez and turn a weekday meal into a special gastronomic experience. Whether you are a fan of grilled fish or eager to explore new flavor combinations, the menu encourages sharing, tasting, and dining at a leisurely pace.

The menu is priced at €45 per person (drinks not included) and is available on Thursday lunchtimes, subject to the terms specified by the restaurant.

Our recommendation: explore the selection of *espetos* (skewered grilled fish), enjoy the variety of starters, and be sure to save room for dessert. After all, at Molino de Pez, tradition is best enjoyed around a great table.
